Dark night of some Hollywood arse-soul
Matthew Modine is the said Hollywood arsehole, suffering through a relationship breakdown with Frenchie Beatrice Dallé, and manipulated by digital camcorder wielding auteur Dennis Hopper, utilising Modine’s grief to take his performance to such rather extreme places.
There is copious amounts of illicit substance use, lesbian love scenes and Modine doing his best attempt to ape Keitel circling rock bottom in Bad Lieutenant. Oh and Claudia Schiffer shows up about half way through, but is weirdly second billed. I guess 1997 was peak Schiffer stardom.
It all feels pretty repetitive but succeeds at least in deglamourising Hollywood excess, none of this looks particularly appealing and certain points I was hoping I would black out to escape the boredom.
