I think I need to become more familiar with Malayalam cinema to fully appreciate Ohm Shanthi Oshaana, but I will still share my thoughts here, even though I may not be the best person to do so.
The film follows Dr Pooja (Nazriya Nazim), a teenager who narrates her humorous account of her love with Giri (Nivin Pauly), a revolutionary farmer.
Nazim is a charming actress who carries the film with her wit and humour. The film requires her to be the centre piece of the entire film, without giving much time to the supporting cast and yet the film does not become tiresome.
There are references to Malayalam cinema that went over my head, but there were moments which I found to be amusing. I also liked how a female character was the lead in this romcom, a genre that often features men chasing women.
I do feel that the film stretches itself too much, and the meta humour that it teased initially got lost somewhere and resorted to a more traditional form of comedy.
