I can say that this is the best film I have watched so far in terms of showing the most real side of love that is ignored in most films.. The greyness of the characters and events, and the fact that their multidimensionality is handled so beautifully compared to an old film, really surprised me.. By portraying women neither as angels nor as a “dirty” woman but as something in between, and by presenting the prejudice of gender discrimination that is unconsciously planted in us from birth (things that are labeled as prostitution when a woman does them but seen as normal when a man does them) differently at the beginning of the film and in the complete opposite way at the end, it manages so beautifully to make us realize our momentary psychology, our thoughts, and the “moral” understanding we were raised with that, as the first Turkish film I have watched, I was deeply impressed and I think it is finally the right time for me to enter Turkish cinema.. Moreover, the film’s title itself, “vesikalı”, meaning “society’s label” or “someone whose profession is seen before their humanity” (used in old Turkish to refer to women working in pavilions), makes what the film is trying to emphasize even clearer, especially by bringing together the words vesikalı and yarim, which would normally never stand side by side.. Both the love between the two characters, the glances, and the light touches were very sweet, and the atmosphere was very nostalgic and warming, especially the scene where they say “Merhaba Halil -Merhaba Sabiha, merhaba.”, turn on the music from the record player, and Sabiha puts her hand on Halil’s hand and feeds him, which felt very heartwarming to me.. Also, the film constantly caught me off guard; I literally experienced the biggest plot twists of my life in this film, the ending was very realistic and unforgettable, and I cannot finish this writing without saying how beautiful Türkan Şoray is, because I could not take my eyes off her, I really miss the value that used to be given to natural beauty
