As a short meditation on the work of Georgian painter Hakob Hovnatanyan, Parajanov's camera is pulled here towards a series of painted portrait close-ups, nearly-liminal spaces, and gorgeous tableaux deliberately shot a little off-center.

The past, even the ancient past, is still with us, and sometimes all it takes to see it is to unfocus our eyes, turn your head just a tetch, and let our minds play, just a little..

Una lettera d'amore all'arte ed al folklore, come tutti i lavori di Parajanov, sempre un capolavoro.
