I love Albert Brooks and I love him even more when he plays a fictionalized version of himself. Brooks comedy works so well for me because he is so comfortable with being the butt of the jokes. So with Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World I had faith in him but was a bit cautious of what the comedy of the film would be based solely on the title and the seeing as how it came out in a post 9/11 America. Thankfully Brooks steered clear of culturally insensitive comedy and continued his tradition of making fun of himself and his neurotic tendencies. This has some great laughs and some truly cringe inducing moments from how clueless his character is and it works well, albeit a bit less than his previous works but it’s still good.
