an interesting period piece that is also a mystery film sorta. not gonna lie i did want to try and like this thing but i just wasn't all too interested in it, the acting performance by everyone was good but otherwise im just not the biggest fan of the overall story and writing

as for dafoe he did great and did his job well as he always does, 4/4 rn dont expect that to change ever, but overall it was just alright.

I have a few ....questions. 🤔 
Namely that I always have to google which priests can have sex because it always seems like a grey area for religion? but like what a kinky bitch to be like, “oh hells yes im gonna bone the priest!” And i saluted her for that. 
Aside from the accent fail, It’s kind of a funny thing about willem dafoe’s over acting in this? Like, when actors play actors, shit just gets out of hand. Its like their chance to express how burdened they feel for their chosen profession, but no non-actor will ever feel sympathetic towards. 
But with this you do get a young cross dressing tom hardy. 
Is it a good movie? 🧐 ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Yes and no? 
You know what it is? It’s like a movie thats on TV during a holiday and you watch it with your parents and it’s good enough but like you’d never see it in the theater. 
It is worth watching for the familiar faces. Matthew Macfadyen, for example, whom you may recognize from the tv show ripper street (or mistake for a clive owen from an alternate universe) is fucking great in his small role as the kings justice.
