I watched The Reckoning because young Tom Hardy is in it 🤭 — but I was really surprised that it's a brilliant film too.
Sometimes I watch a film, fall completely in love with it, and then see it has bad ratings… and I start to think my taste sucks 😭 That's what happened here. But you know what? I don't care. I’m giving it five stars because I think it’s wonderful in every way.
It’s got an amazing cast, gorgeous cinematography, and a gripping story. The atmosphere, the pacing, the performances — all of it worked for me. I haven’t read the novel it’s based on (Morality Play), but I have a strong feeling they did it justice. I know some people thought the film was slow or boring, but for me it was the complete opposite — I was hooked the entire time, fully invested in the story and where it was going. Nothing felt weird or took too long.
My only complaint is that they didn’t just call it Morality Play — it’s such a perfect title.
Also… sigh Tom Hardy looks too damn gorgeous in this 🩷
