4# JAPANUARY CHALLENGE! -
CRAB GOALKEEPER (2006)That was absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
I can’t even put into words how much this film made me laugh. Maybe I’m exaggerating, but I had the
lowest expectations when I saw the crab costume. Yet, as soon as I started watching—despite being utterly exhausted (it’s almost 1 a.m., and I have work tomorrow)—I realized this film is truly one of a kind.
The only way I can describe it is:
if Yakuza side quests had a film, this would be it. It captures the sheer randomness and silly-ness so perfectly! Oh, and who would’ve thought—Ryuji is actually the actor behind Daisaku Kuze from
Yakuza 0. Yep, that all checks out now.
I genuinely felt like I was watching the most nonsensical thing ever created, but because it was taken so seriously, it ended up being such an enjoyable experience. Right from the start, it hooked me with its humor, emotional moments, and—honestly—the crab was just so adorable I couldn’t help but love it. 🦀❤️
Best rom-com ever, Kanee!
