Pretty cute but very wonkily placed. Given the plot, they obviously need to accomplish a lot before establishing the romance proper. However, even after the fact, it feels like time was not alotted efficiently. Grace’s family is very cute yes, but they end up taking a lot of screen time away from the actual romance. They end up going on like one real date together with just the two of them, and then we get to the third act breakup, and then its resolved almost immediately.
That being said, it is a pretty charming film. David Duchovny and Minnie Driver are two perfect actors for a romcom. And the supporting cast is pretty funny and cute throughout. The first hour or so is also sufficiently dramatic and heartbreaking which helps really sell the premise.
