Christmas on Earth

For all intents and purposes, "Christmas on Earth" is a performance art film about genital worshipping. At 29 minutes, Barbara Rubin has created the ultimate study on the celebratory and erotic nature of free-love. The film is tinted in various colors, hence the title, and finds various individuals engaging in sexual activity. Men with women, men with men, women with women, and several orgies throughout.

Christmas on Earth
Is this basically a half-hour of a pan-sexual orgy, shot with Warholesque garishness and 60s stonery camera tricks? Well... yes.

But Andy Warhol derived no small part of his future cinematic inspiration from Barbara Rubin (and this film in particular), and films like this are a good reminder that sometimes art is all about trying things, putting some ideas out there and seeing what happens. Turn on a radio, paint everyone up, double-expose some film, turn a naked torso into a dancing snowman, get your camera into positions no camera had ever been before (or since).

It's not "hot" or "sexy" in a traditional sense, but watching them all have fun in various incarnations was kinda worth it.

Wes Anderson would puke if he saw this. I dug it.
