In England, a group of space scientists led by Bernard Quatermass, who have developed plans for the first Moon colony, learn that a secret, ostensibly government-run, complex of identical design has been built in a remote part of England and is the focus of periodic falls of small, hollow "meteorites" originating in outer space. Quatermass determines to investigate and uncovers a terrifying extraterrestrial life form which has already begun action to take over the Earth.

Back with Quatermass again! I missed the old bastard. Also ecstatic to see Lomax returning in the cast list.
Cantankerous old men tend to be downers, but there's something about the immense belief Quatermass has in the possibility and ultimate necessity of science that's very can-do. He believes that anything scientists can envision can be done, and intends to do it. But given how things are always happening around Quatermass, it's a thought that's equally horrifying and inspirational.
Pretty early on, don't know what's going on but it's pretty incredible. A conspiracy surrounding a mysterious black project, unusual meteorological readings, bizarre meteorites containing something strange and living.
All-time screen chemistry between Donlevy and Longden, the new Lomax. Starting off this time as friends, but still perfectly at odds as Lomax accuses dear Quatermass of trying to spoil their friendship.
It's a great moment when Hall gets gunned down. Some decent tension from there on out, as well, with Quatermass taking the desperate measure of walking straight into danger. The alien he sees at last is well worth it, and would make for a proper conclusion to any Lovecraft story.
Fortunately for mankind, this is Quatermass, and humanity wins out in the end, with much horror and several big explosions. Quatermass is the greatest of all time.
"Hello? Mister Broadhead, Inspector Lomax, sir. I have someone here you might like to meet. He has some rather curious information about...a certain establishment. Are you dependable sir?" "What?" "Quite dependable. In an hour at the house of commons."
alt. quote: "You know what worries me. How am I going to make a final report about all this?" "What worries me is, how final can it be?"

Is the real Mandela effect that I spent ages thinking Quatermass was spelt Quartermass? Or, that I spent ages thinking these were masterpieces?
