I'm mainly here because of the Lubitsch aspect which is really minimal, but what I got instead is a nineteenth century gothic melodrama and I couldn't be happier. Great Gene Tierney performance, and an excellently evil non-horror Vincent Price performance. So very my thing.

Tbh I feel like this is the kinda gothic period drama that I'd love to see today, like shifting from idealistic and farm life to the big mansions and the dark stories hidden within it. Like it definitely would have been this great film. I kinda lost my attention with this at 50 mins in and sped it up and watched Catwoman videos. Yes not Cat videos, Catwoman videos because who wouldn't
