I think an argument can be made that Anatoliy Solonitsyn is one of the greatest actors in the history of cinema. Every performance I’ve seen of his has been dynamically different and deeply human. This, might be one of his best.
While I don’t know much about the life of Dostoyevsky, and have only read crime and punishment, I understand the importance he has in Russian history. And despite having no knowledge of Russian culture, I think this film did a capable job of displaying the struggles of Dostoyevsky in a captivating and engaging way.
