Shout out to
MovieDives for putting this one on my radar! I read the words, “schlocky nostalgia-bomb with VHS rental vibes,” mixed with Dungeons and Dragons and came running, and boy, am I glad I did.
I have pretty much no experience with SOV flicks, but even I could tell that this one had something special.
Knight Chills will definitely not work for everyone, but as someone with a penchant for both weirdo nerd shit and cheesy slashers, this ticked a lot of boxes for me and I can honestly say that I’ve never seen anything else like it.
I actually couldn’t stop giggling the entire way through — between the awkward soap opera music constantly playing in the background, and every actor’s tonally perplexing line deliveries, this movie works just as well as a comedy as it does a slasher. The ending had me positively losing it!
Honestly, as someone who played a bit of D&D in college, I mostly just found myself insanely jealous of this party’s gaming setup. Like, they not only had a tricked out basement to play in, but also a passionate DM and an entire group of both men
and women who consistently gathered EVERY week to play?? The dream, literally the dream.
