In all honesty, they had a great concept but kind of butchered it in multiple ways. First, I felt like them escaping the room should have been the climax and then had like 20 or so minutes of the kid getting used to the real world instead they had what I would say the biggest moment in the middle of the film then kind of just dicked around for another hour. They could have build the rooms suspense up and the mom’s relationship with her son up but one of just didn’t which made it fall flat. The second thing is they made the mother so unlikable for the majority of the film. I understand she went through a lot but she’s so abrasive in inappropriate moments which made her character super unlikable for me. The good is I thought the idea was solid yet poorly executed. The actor who played the kid did a great job on portraying a child who had never seen the world before and it is a bit of a heartwarming tearjerker. I don’t need to rewatch this though.

I haven't read the book in so long, but it haunts me to this day. And the film adaptation is just as harrowing. Room is genuinely so disturbing because it's told through Jack's perspective, with his innocence only serving to heighten the horrors he and Joy especially are forced to endure. Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay are outstanding in this film, and while Brie completely deserved her Oscar, I do think Jacob also should've won a major award because he's unbelievably talented. And so while Room is an excellent film, it's not one I can stomach rewatching often.
