Ah, the origin of Mike Flanagan’s iconic Lasser Glass.
This short film is just a slice of the haunted mirror idea that Mike would later expand upon in his 2013 feature film Oculus. This version of the story is regrettably low quality in terms of set design, visual effects and acting caliber, but what it does have is a capital-I Idea. All of the tension surrounding the torturous Lasser Glass lore still builds incredibly well, despite what this short has working against it, and I loved that the strength of Mike’s vision could still shine through.
Warts and all, I enjoyed this and thought it was great to see the humble beginnings of a prop that has been such a long-standing piece of Flanagan’s filmography.
