An underground bleak smoothie made up of Taxi Driver, Angst, Bad Boy Bubby, Eraserhead, and many more. This has been on my radar since high school. I would have loved this back then. I love it now, but for different reasons. There is a ton of amateurishness to this, but it manages to push itself far enough past its failings imo. It commits to the filth of the world it wants to portray. I like the sprinkled bursts of formalism as well as some of the more ubiquitous artistic touches like the constantly assaultive soundscape (think Eraserhead). Contrast that with the actual soundtrack, which is effective at multiple levels. Its odd, but complimentary to the audial externalization of the world. My appetite for this kind of film has evolved a lot over the years, but this still holds up. Definitely shocking, abrasive, and brutal.
