Wiseman does it again, a beautifully serene painting of the life within London’s National Gallery. His peaceful approach to filming is so greatly appreciated, especially when it comes to such a delightful subject as art. I don’t know much about art but watching this gave me a lovely bit of schooling, so much goes into creating these instillations and of course the actual artworks. The inner workings of this organisation are so interesting, the financial side of things and the actual restorations were so fascinating. I really enjoyed the many guides who were telling their groups about the paintings, it’s such an expansive and glorious thing. That ballet dance within the gallery to end the documentary was magnificent, a beautiful way to end a long film.

An insightful analysis on a formidable institution (with some very pompous curators) turned into a gorgeously transcendental poem on the animation and influence of art and its artists, all moving so fluidly and cogently. One of my favorite documentaries.
