Everyone glazes this as being way better than the remake but there is soooo many elements in the remake which I love and prefer. I think this is only better because Stellan Skarsgård delivered triple the performance Al Pacino did. I though Robin Williams was a much better villain too, and I missed that chase scene across the logs cause that was amazing.

He disappears into this part where as in Nolan's film I only see Al Pacino as a detective. On the flipside, Robin Williams is much more compelling as the antagonist than Bjørn Floberg. His presence is more impactful, memorable, and more frequent.

Aside from the leads, I think that Skjoldbjærg's version feel's a little lifeless in comparison. Nolan's isn't exactly brimming with energy either, but I wasn't thrilled by anything on screen here.

Overall, they're extremely similar in structure and execution, but when it comes to enjoyment, I ever so slightly prefer Nolan's due to the increased energy and improved camerawork.

With its rough editing and protagonist's behavior, the film often shows a brightness spike blinding your screen that feels like flashbang. This happens in some intense/stressful scenes and represents his point of view that wakes him from his tiredness. It portrays Stellan Skarsgard screaming 'let me sleep' in my ear, even tho he barely talks.

You can feel his lack of sleep, both physically and mentally. This is the point when 'Insomnia' makes the audience insomnia aswell. The film tries to emulate an exhausted atmosphere, and by the end, Insomnia makes you feel fatigued just like the protagonist. Lucky i am to have watched the original film first before the remake, and of course Nolan Insomnia(2002) remake next!!.

Amazing psychosexual drama that has a stellar acting performance from Skarsgård. There's nothing that the average reviews can do that convince me that this is a bad movie.
