There have been a few times where as I am doomscrolling Letterboxd, going from director to actor to movie and all around, seeing what peeps my interest, where I find a movie with a premise so intriguing that not only does it go into my watchlist but I also have a deep sudden desire to watch it as soon as possible.

Is one of those movies. And it’s also one that greatly surpassed ANY EXPECTATIONS I may have had for it.
Maybe it’s my sole unawareness of Persian cinema. But never would I have expected such a poignant story told with such stylistic flair would come from a Persian story IN THE EARLY 2000s.
As Golrokh, a naive, kind hearted woman, navigates the treacherous cruel world of man, witnessing the degree of depravity, greed and corruption it emanates, never once does she ever stoop to their level even when it would have been the EASIEST option to do, the MOST JOYOUS OPTION. Never once does she let her dignity go.
Holy shit this was good 😭 even though the version I watched was at 360p and the English translation stopped working in the last 30 minutes so I had to resort to YouTube’s horrible Ai translation to understand what was up.
It’s actually heartbreaking that, as far as I know, there isn’t a proper way to watch this movie. 💔
I also have a conspiracy theory that park chan wook’s “lady vengeance” was HEAVILY INSPIRED by this movie (borderline copied it).
