A pretty solid gangster flick, nothing too special for right now but decent for the time. It was cool to see James Cagney’s gangster origins, was a bit of a shame that he gave the only great performance, everyone else was slightly average or just downright bad. The story as a whole was good, some quite exciting moments like the escape from prison and a few of the shootouts. You could definitely tell it’s an early talkie, a lot of crackling and some slightly robust dialogue, even though all these faults were quite apparent I still love seeing the development of cinema through watching older films.
