But Hideo Nakata’s Ring knows how to scare an audience, and made me feel that childish feeling of paranoia, where I was looking behind my back every 5 seconds, as if Sadako were there. Ring really set a standard for horror films in the 2000’s. In an era where horror films relied on extreme gore, there’s something more terrifying in simplistic, psychological horror.
