Finally Kneale pulls his finger out and gives us the science vs the supernatural, a la The Stone Tape, that we love him for. Andrew Keir is an infinitely better Quatermass than Donlevy and the whole thing reeks of the slightly shoddy, early British sci fi that I love.

Alien bugs from Mars? Let’s check it out. This movie is told in a breakneck pace, always moving to the next scene as quick as possible and spitting dialogue fast as well. I loved the 60s Britishness of the movie, it had the backstage facade of a darkly warped Austin Powers. The old tech was cool too. (Spoiler) I always like to see movies where the result is the destruction of an entire town. And such a nihilistic and sudden ending too.
