Thoughts.

Okay so it’s starts off with a musical number where judy garlands character Jo is basically singing about being a life sized sex doll that calls the man that buys her ‘daddy’. Then we find out Gene kelly’s character Harry is just a massive dickead, but Jo falls madly in love with him whilst they do their act together. THEN her brother is drafted and dies, whilst that is happening Harry is drafted and mangles his hand to which Jo dumps him for because he’s a coward or whatever. Then a whole lot of war propaganda, and harry ends the war.

Gene Kelly’s debut! And he does it with the magnificent Judy Garland. This was kind of meh in terms of music, choreography, and story, but it was actually shot quite well. Infinitely better than Girl Crazy, which Berkeley also directed.

Still, Star power carried this one. The two leads were great, turning a mediocre movie into a pretty fun, eminently watchable movie.
