i’ve never watched a Batman movie before so i didn’t know much about this character coming in, but considering this is supposedly the best superhero trilogy, i knew i had to check it out. the first instalment definitely did not disappoint as we got a beautiful origin story for Batman, and even though the Batman costume doesn’t appear for the first hour of the movie, i was still intrigued throughout due to how interesting Bruce Wayne is as a character. this doesn’t feel like your average superhero movie since it’s a lot darker, and Nolan does an incredible job at making the story feel more grounded in realism.
i thought the plot was pretty expansive for being the first movie, and the stakes were already extremely high. i wasn’t a big fan of the main villain as we didn’t really see too much of him until the very end, and even though the reveal shocked me, i couldn’t really care less for his character. Scarecrow, on the other hand, was such a powerful villain and i would’ve loved to see more from him - it felt like he should’ve been the main villain instead of working for someone else. i absolutely loved the casting in this film and thought Alfred and Fox were great, along with Christian Bale putting on an amazing performance for Batman - although i’m not entirely sure about his Batman voice.
there wasn’t a single boring moment throughout the film for me as all the dialogue felt important to the story, and the way they revealed the Joker for the sequel was really fun. looking forward to completing the rest of the trilogy!
