Albert Brooks at his warmest and most lowkey— Mother is an uncomfortably relatable domestic comedy about a twice-divorced middle-aged writer moving back in with his... Mother... to try and figure out why he is the way he is. Now I'm no twice-divorcee in my late 40s, but I do have a... Mother... and the way Brooks and Debbie Reynolds banter and specifically the things that Reynolds' character says and the way she acts in regards to her son, gahhh it just hits too damn close to home. I've never felt more seen in a film. I'm going to kill myself now.
