At first, this movie reads like a meditation on grief. A more traditional horror movie would be the prequel to this film. However, when you stop to think about it, this story - and the arm’s reach at which it keeps you - is both devastating and spooky. I wish I had a stronger emotional connection with the characters. However, I’m not sure setting that up while sustaining this film’s strengths would be possible. Fans of Virgin Suicides and Nell in Haunting of Hillhouse might like this.
