I fell in love with the atmosphere and the bond between the characters. What I didn't like was the colonial romanticization and failure to fully present the truth. I was truly disappointed by the rape scene but it shows how catastrophic situations occurred for black women in that time and place. There are a few things I found unnecessary, but I enjoyed the film itself. Their bond was very palpable on screen.

I first watched this movie a long time ago with my mum when I didn't know any Spanish, now that I was able to understand everything, made me get even more emotional. And the best part is that my fencing teacher, who's also a university professor, met the author of the book!
