Twelve-year-old Mexican-American Marcos (Jose Alcala) recalls the hardships of the previous year, reflecting on the arduous trek his migrant-worker family made from Texas to the Midwest during harvest season. Along the way, Marcos learns plenty about the harsh realities of bigotry and the power of family in America of the 1950s. The coming-of-age Chicano drama is based on Tomas Rivera's semiautobiographical 1971 novella.

...And the Earth Did Not Swallow Him
This film desperately needs a restoration, it’s beautiful presentation is downscaled by the only available quality of the film being a hard to find vhs tape with heavy compression and also a equally hard to find kino dvd that also has a ton of compression. I’m not in a good emotional headspace at the moment and watching this wasn’t helpful with that but I will say I was genuinely moved and took away a ton from this film. Very sad and unfortunate that this film doesn’t have an upload that isn’t on Kanopy. I’m genuinely hoping a restoration is done on the film, at this rate I am probably going to buy the kino dvd.

Did choke up by the end too, fuck man times have not changed. One of the best third cinema films I’ve seen.
