A Palestinian boy becomes entranced with a beautiful Romani girl and a fairy tale world she weaves amidst conflict in Gaza. The children explore nature, mysticism and what their future holds, while learning to live with the surrounding brutality c. 1990. Yusef's family scrapes by in a seaside camp while his father's in prison and his heavily-armed brother's on the run, parrying with Israeli troops. Salah, Yusef's schoolmate from a well-off Arab family strives faithfully to assist them, while Yusef helps an elderly, blind neighbor escape from his lonely abandonment into the North American dreamworld he's waited so long for.

Palestine has always been something I grew up with, rooted in my heart as a land of love and freedom. I regret delaying this film for a long time, but I ended up loving it deeply. This film was truly poetic, beautiful, and romantic beyond words. Every character, event, and conversation reflected how Palestinians live between the pain of their occupied land and the hope they find in love and in the day their land will return to them.

gaza was and is always so beautiful. the history and culture and what was taken from the palestinians will always be in my mind, and their lives should always be celebrated and talked about. what an important film, so filled with wonder and the way they shot this film paints such an awe inspiring scene. the ending was so magnificent and magical. “we forgot the sea existed at all.” is so subtly heart wrenching. palestine will be free

one of the most beautiful movies i've seen. soft and tender and imaginative as a child. all kids deserve to be kids and love and dream and make mistakes
