Chris: *punches her asshat male coach in the throat
“Did anyone ever tell you you’re a manipulative, sadistic creep?”*> Me: 😍👏👏🤩🥳🙌😍For the first 1hr 20min in Chris is soo whiny. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that she’s unrelatable, but just that she represents the naive, annoying, pushover parts of myself that I don’t want to be reminded of. She seeks validation from her relationships with older people, authority figures, those she looks up to, whether they be romantic or otherwise. Even if those people don’t treat her well or their intentions aren’t pure, she still feels the need to bend to their will.
As someone who hates to let people down- I know the feeling all too well.
Her progression to finally gaining confidence in herself and her abilities though is what makes this so great. It’s all about competing against yourself, not about beating others. Cheesy? maybe, but hey, it’s a sports movie.
I’m not the biggest sports film fan. Hell- most of the sports movies I’ve seen have been in the
Air Bud franchise. But this is some pretty solid character-driven stuff. Recommend.

(Edit: I did forget it has some weird racist stuff towards Asian and Indigenous ppl, just wanna mention that.)*
