Flicker
I wanted to watch a comedy…
well it was a mistake. Because beyond the fact that this film isn’t funny, it’s unsettling.
I think you can laugh about a lot of things — almost anything. But there are ways to do it, with subtlety, with intelligence.
And here, it’s just catastrophic.I also think freedom of expression is great, talking about everything and anything, sure —
but there are still things you can keep to yourself. Like these very, very weird fantasies.
And the worst part is the way it’s handled.
I mean, at what point does something like rape become a “fantasy”? If that’s a fantasy, go get help. And even beyond that, all the other fantasies in the film take on a tone that’s just… deeply uncomfortable,
because there’s basically no consent involved.
Maybe I sound like a buzzkill,
but with topics like these, there are ways to approach them. This isn’t one of them.
Anyway — yeah. This film is, overall,
a massive piece of shit.
