While i wasn't quite ready for it to be a SOV disaster, I did know it was a low budget slasher knock-off. I was ready for the terrible acting (although not every performance was awful, most were), barely existent plot that really only serves as a reason to get the characters into the woods (this one doesn't really hold up to any scrutiny and the ending leaves a lot to be desired) and unexciting kills. This was clearly shot with a couple of camcorders, so the video quality is pretty shit, but even when you get used to that, nothing can excuse one of the cameras having something going on in the borders of the screen. It almost looks like a flim strip frame you would put in in post, but there is something wrong with that specific camera. I do have to give the film credit for the effects; they aren't nearly as bad as I anticipated them being. They aren't great, but for a movie of this caliber, they are pretty okay. The sound effects aren't awful either, though they are clearly stock effects; but since they were able to add these in in post-production, it makes me wonder why they didn't bother with ADR. There are multiple scenes where the microphone doesn't pick up the audio well and takes where the actors aren't speaking as clearly as needed; if you are already adding Foley, why not fix the audio too? With a movie like this, you go in with two hopes, either it is surprisingly well made for the budget and experience of the crew or it's "good bad" and it is a movie that is so poorly made that it is fun to laugh at and pick apart. Camp Blood is neither. It is definitely a bad movie, but mostly because it's boring, uncreative, and bland. It's not something you can suggest to fans of Friday the 13th or Halloween, and it also isn't something for fans of The Room or Neil Breen. It's a hard pass for everyone across the board.
