When his brother disappears, a man visits the remote country house where he was last seen. While the host seems outwardly friendly and his niece more demonstrably so, there's a feeling of menace in the air with the overhanging legend of Lavinia Morley, the Black Witch of Greymarsh.
On paper this sounds great: Christopher Lee, an aging Boris Karloff, an gothic country manor, a missing person, touches of folk horror, cult and pagan horror, psychedelic kaleidoscopic nightmares, creepy butlers and ancient artefacts...all cool stuff. Unfortunately, the lead character (and actor) is boring, and when the plot isn't going around in circles it's just a bit boring. It's trying for a slow burn atmosphere, and I get it, but there are other films that carry this off far better than here. It's a shame, really.
