Starting off strong with a post-war film starring my #1 cleft chin in the biz- Robert Mitchum (and two other Roberts) firing off dialogue at 100 wpm. I didn’t ultimately love the story, I felt like it could have taken things farther and darker than it ultimately did, but overall a worthy start to a month full of chain smoking, finger waves and shadows, shadows and more shadows.

Mitchum, Ryan and many others are all jampacked in this 1947 Noir that covers antisemitism and hatred. Robert Ryan is amazing as a heel in pretty much most of his work, but in this one he is just so good standing out above the crowd.


I loved the push-ins and the dark shadowy cinematography the speeches like Finlay's Speech on hate and how is grandfather was killed due to it. I love how that message connects all the forms of hate and gives the viewer a short history lesson on the irish discrimination.

Yesterday and film class yes I forgot to log it because it was too busy doing homework. Anyways we only saw the opening scene to this movie but oh my gosh I am hooked. The cinematography of the movie breaking rules of traditional filmmaking. Just makes me want to watch the full movie hopefully soon.
