So does this movie fall within canon?
Heh.
After the success of Not Quite Hollywood and Machete Maiden's Unleashed trash cinema afficianado Mark Hartley directs this worts and all nostalgic love letter to the Canon Group, a notorious 80s B movie production house headed by cousins Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus.
This is a similar vibe to his previous efforts, celebrating the so-bad-it's-good nature of the product and laughing along the way at the outlaw maverick production values.
There are plenty of clips of VHS wonders from the past, with Chuck Norris, Charles Bronson and Dolph Lundgren amoungst the content featured, and plenty of interviews with key creative and studio figures. The interviews range from reverance for the Golan and Globus 'Get it done' enthusiasm and snobbery that these two dare try to buck the trend of Hollywood. Former MGM head Frank Yablans seems to be the grumpiest of the interviewees with a real axe to grind against the cousins.
Given the success of Marvel in the current market it would have been interesting to hear a bit more about their attempt to bring Spidey to the big screen.
Look out for an out of character appearance from Elvira Mistress of the Dark herself Cassandra Peterson.
