Such an interesting plot was unfortunately wasted on this dull film.
The Gay Divorcee manages to somehow retain attention for 50 minutes of its 105 minute run-time until it reaches its peak during Night and Day. Admittedly, Night and Day is an astounding song. However, an audience's time and energy is better spent listening to the Frank Sinatra cover rather than punishing themselves by watching this bloat.
The final nail in the coffin is the overextended performance of The Continental, where you find your mind drifting off as the songs repetitiveness and unpolished choreography bores you to death for 17 whole minutes. This time spent without any character developement or dialogue is an unforgiveable movie sin that cannot be overlooked.
Seriously, how can anyone be expected to listen to the same song for 17 minutes straight?
2 stars just for having Night and Day.
1/2 a star if it didn't.
