If I had a dollar for every time they name drop “The Furies”, I might just be a millionaire.
I don’t know how to feel about Anthony Mann’s The Furies. I think we all have that genre that we enjoy the least, and I’m starting to realize that for me, it might just be westerns. There really should be no reason for me to be underwhelmed by this film. I love its gorgeous black and white cinematography and we get some decent performances throughout the cast, especially from Judith Anderson. But I was never grabbed by its plot. We have some bad blood between rival gangs, and a mix of romance because you absolutely have to have that in a Barbara Stanwyck led film. It just feels all over the place, and it seems I’m in the minority with this one.
