Watched it without subtitles, so I didn’t really understand much of the Italian, sadly.

Still, so brilliant — beautifully shot. The acting felt so real.

The soundtrack also had so much meaning: music by Callas, a huge influence, and also Congolese music, just like in The Gospel According to St. Matthew.

You can tell that Ferrara has a lot of respect for Pasolini and really did his research.

Fucking hell, just thinking about his murder makes me feel empty inside. Such a brilliant and beautiful man, killed for no reason.

Will definitely have to revisit this in the next couple of weeks — with subtitles, hopefully!

an interesting look and on some level critique of the works of Pasolini. This movie was enjoyable from beginning to end for me as there wasn’t a moment where i didn’t feel entirely engaged, all that being said i still think this film could hit me even harder if i was familiar with Pasolini, as before this i had not heard of him. But even with no knowledge beforehand this film didn’t give me a dull moment once

dafoe is 5/5 and genuinely killed the hell out of this role.

Which I didn't find myself interested in it all that much. While Abel Ferrara's use of exploitation speaks to me more, I didn't find Pasolini's use of it all that endearing. After watching this biopic I might see it again later down the line now through a new perspective . Along with all of Pasolini's other films.

Watching a movie about Pasolini before watching a move by him might've not been the best way to go about this, however here we are. Dafoe is great, expected, and I much more respect this type of telling the story of someone's life, by simply focusing on a small but important part of it. The movie works and while I wasn't super into it, I still came out liking it quite alot. It's nice to see Ferrara make movies that feel alot more personal to him, even if they might become less accessible at times
