Scotty moves into Mrs. Engels' seaside mansion where three other college students are boarding. Mrs. Engels prefers to stay in her room in the attic, but her son Mason helps the students get settled. Soon one of the students is killed. The policemen on the case begin uncovering the Engels family secret as the remaining students become endangered

This was....perfect???
Been putting this off for so long but I'm glad I finally watched it.
It's a pretty simple slasher but is executed really well. I love the characters and how they interacted with each other. The film is psycho-inspired but does a really good twist on the formula. The film feels like a bridge between Halloween and the slashers that would come in the following years.
Very underrated film in my opinion.

Been putting this off for so long but I'm glad I finally watched it.

I would argue this doesn’t belong in the slasher pile but it is something close that I love. The fact that this reminded me of The Unseen and is deeply in Psycho(s) territory should give you an idea. It’s also just oddly magnetic.

you know when you watch a movie and, throughout its runtime, you can just FEEL that it's going to be one of your favorites? yeah, that was this for me. the college setting and the beachy, cozy aesthetic immediately caught my attention, but there is so much more to love once the movie really gets going. scotty is a perfect main character & my new favorite final girl; the pacing is absolutely incredible; and don't even get me started on the performances, sound design/music, the surprisingly thematically well-grounded plot twist, or actually, ANY detail about this movie. i pretty much love it all (even the love interest, which isn't typical for me in slashers. i'm so glad this film took a hopeless romantic-esque turn for the ending because their banter was genuinely cute).
