"Oh I wish men were more romantic like they used to be" sure, did you want the domestic abuse that comes with that?

this was the first ever full length silent film i watched, and ngl i enjoyed it, it was funny but had a lot of heart, it's just that i was really into it in the beginning and then the middle started to get idk repetitive, but the ending brought me back and i really liked the ending scene

watching it with live music definitely changed the experience tho, like don't watch a silent film without live music, it completely changes the view. however, just to criticize the live musician i had, there were a lot of scenes that i thought were a lot more sad or happy than the music made it feel and i kinda kept waiting for the music to fit better and it never did so, take that as you will

overall, i enjoyed it but it wasn't stunning

Damn, what a sad movie. I watched a lot of Borzage's work in 2024, but this is the first time I've watched one of his silent films and it really impressed me. Lots of very beautiful imagery and much more unchained camera movements that his sound films can't do as well as the silents. Janet Gaynor has such a perfect beautifully expressive face for silent films, and she truly knows how to pull at your heartstrings. Damn, I wish 4 Devils still existed...

BCP Film Challenge #15 | First Academy Awards #4

calling this “the masterpiece of all time” is actually an insane take. i watched a movie about a talking teddy bear tonight and had a better time.
