Review for The Last of Us 2 Video Game
Coming off a recent playthrough of The Last of Us Part 2 GAME but this AIN’T NO GAME. This is a movie + one hell of an experience and I just needed to get my thoughts out somewhere (spoiler free).
My first playthrough of this game was 5 years ago and man, I hated it.
The Last of Us Part 1 filled my heart with so much joy. Aside from that gut wrenching intro, it had me (and literally everyone else who’s played this) cheesing from ear to ear watching Ellie slowly destroy Joel's trauma induced impenetrable emotional barrier. By the end, Ellie’s practically his daughter and the game leaves you feeling delighted as hell. I still have yet to see a negative review about the first game.
And then we got The Last of Us Part 2…
Remember that joy and delight they leave with you in first game? Oh yea, it’s gone now. The FIRST HOUR OF GAMEPLAY strips you of your heart and everything you’ve ever known about storytelling. Oh and it doesn’t stop there. They trample on it a lil more before having you play as the character responsible for it. When I first played this, the event had me livid and them having me play as Abby had me so confused and angry on why they’d force me to play half the game as this newcomer. I didn’t side with her once and the end had me wishing I had never played it. Straight up 0/10 unsalvageable mess.
Decided to try it one more time as I had just completed the first game again and dawg..
I’m much more open-minded than I once was and that’s really the key to understanding this game. This isn’t about Joel, Ellie or Abby. This shit’s about the human condition & LIFE. When I was first introduced to Abby, she was the biggest opp of all time but this time around, she was justified as hell. First time I was adult Ellie, I went on the rampage of the century as she could do no wrong, but this time around.. Ellie CHILLLLL 😭 In life, there are no sides. There’s only right and wrong and this game plays in between the lines seamlessly to the point where you literally don’t know what to think anymore. And that’s the whole point.
The first game makes you feel 😁
The second game makes you feel insert every emoji on the keyboard here
In my opinion, the greatest pieces of art aren’t concerned about making you feel anything in specific; they’re concerned about making you FEEL and this game does this perfectly. Anyone who plays this will feel differently about the story than the next player, but that feeling’s strong and individual to you.
To truly enjoy this game, you must be open to seeing things from a new perspective, even though you may not enjoy the outcome. This game is an 11/10 bruh. Top 3 personal games all-time. Also, I have seen clips of the show’s second season and they aren’t touching the depth of this game in the slightest. I’m sure some will enjoy it, especially those who have never played the game BUT DO NOT COMPARE IT TO THIS MASTERPIECE. It’s a whole new creation. If you do understand the game and still wanna defend the show, do it somewhere else, you are not welcomed here. These “minor changes” are actually huge in comparison from a wholistic standpoint and are purely there to seem more pleasing to hollywood’s storytelling standards which ultimately makes the game’s story accuracy and intricacies seem like an afterthought.
It is difficult for a piece of media to make me cry after a rewatch/replay. The only things that will do it for me are 1. Ratatouille, especially the ending. 2. Little Miss Sunshine dance routine scene. 3. KD’s mvp speech. 4. The Last of Us Part 2 final talk scene. Bruh that killed me. Please play The Last of Us 1 & 2 if you haven’t already.
Ngl, no one reading all this and that’s ok.
