“I've lived here for eighteen years and I have never once in my life come across anyone who cares about anything that matters.”
I’m much happier with the ending I got than the one I expected. I just know that Margo Roth Spiegelman will stay in the back of his mind forever, as a ‘what if’…
I know she addressed it in the end, but Q kept claiming that he loved her, which was the most ridiculous part of this film, but honestly realistic. He didn’t know her, he wasn’t a part of her most formative years, he loved the thought of her, the thrills she had, the mystery side that kept others guessing. He clung on to the memories they had, he took his friends 1,200 miles away without any planning, didn’t even mention it to his parents til he was already driving, and tried to guilt trip his friends into staying longer and possibly missing out prom, all because of a girl he claimed to love..
Kinda adore how poetic Margo can be, you can tell she just has a lot of time to think and be in her head. Although I honestly feel like she’s just a bit inconsiderate to those around her, she didn’t even confirm her best friend Lacey knew about her boyfriend cheating before doing all that to her. And then to leave and move towns without telling anyone? I understand her parents are used to it, but if I ever ran away like that, I’d probably give my parents some heart attack. Also, leaving those notes around feels kind of cruel. What would you expect? Shocked that he found you after you left a trail leading to exactly where you were..? It honestly felt like a game she was playing with him. Like let me leave these clues and reminders that I’m gone and lead you to where I am, but don’t come looking because I don’t know who I am and that’s not the purpose of me leaving clues?? If you just want him to know you’re okay then just leave a note saying “I am okay”
Even though I think Quentin is not that great of a friend, kinda dumb, and pisses me off over and over again, I still really enjoyed this movie. It was a fun, coming-of-age, adventurous, cliche film. I love living vicariously through movies, I would never have the ability or opportunity to do half of the things they do here, but it’s fun to imagine.
