It's autumn in New York. Sam has broken up with his girlfriend and his father has recently died. World-weary and sloppy drunk, he finds temporary solace in the arms of Anna, a mysterious vampire who draws him away from his friends and into a web of addiction and madness.

Really loved the entire vibe of this movie. It's so gross and sad and beautiful to look at. Fessenden captures 90's NYC so well in its aesthetic but also makes us feel just as isolated and trapped as Sam. Ending hit me like a ton of bricks.

HORRORx52: 2026 [8/52]: Habit (1995)

Habit is, in my opinion, up there with Cronos and Sinners as one of the best vampire movies ever made. The plot is simple but effective, I found the genre shift from indie drama to horror to be very well done (it's in a similar vein as Audition's genre shift from romcom to horror), and I really liked Larry Fessenden's performance.

My HORRORx52: 2026 List
| Previous Movie: ***Weapons (2025)*** | Next Movie: N/A |

one of the most indie things i have seen up to this point and i do appreciate some of the stuff done here to keep the budget at basically zero, especially for the 90’s.. and the grimey poor feeling that gave off was great for the story. but overall the production quality being so poor did make it harder to enjoy

it was also hard to enjoy because the characters just kinda sucked and were impossible to get invested into.

the sex scenes were super awkward and i cant tell if this was intentional or not… going off the fact that this is a self directed and starred in film i would assume he wanted it to be as sexy as possible but hey you never know. if i knew for sure in either side of this i probably would of found this much more enjoyable because its either extremely embarrassing or super well done and kinda effective

“Vampirism is everywhere, at the bottom of a bottle, or a needle in the arm, the advertising and gluttony draining us of our ability to think. It is the insidious Faustian bargains we make every day. The little compromises that eat at our soul.”
