sigh. a guy recommended this to me one time, i thought he was flirting with me.. it turns out he was not. i can see why this is a well done shockumentary but the most shocking part of this (to me) was when there was a nazi on my screen instead of just a plethora of sadomasochists.

I think I understand Ulrich Seidl's style a little more now. Not saying anything just showing things as they are. Raw.

That's certainly one way to make a documentary. Tho this needed way more model train guy. He lit up the screen

IN THE BASEMENT is a shockumentary veiled as a non-judgemental character study of Austrian hobbyist and their basements. Fuck the Nazi but I think the other subjects are a showcase of individuals on the fringe that exist and do not require our morality, judgement nor approval to continue existing. The film succeeds at piquing interest and making you wonder— how do these hobbyist come to be?
