yeah dude, i fucking guess. this alien knockoff has a lot of potential that doesn't really go anywhere except for into the beautiful production design. the one thing that i can confidently say is that the visuals in this are quite stunning, shout out james cameron. the big issue that i have with this is that there are too many bullshit characters for this fear based plot to work. if the big bad is a creature that can physically manifest into your greatest fear, then i should be learning something about a character when it happens. not wanting to be murdered by aliens is not an acceptable fear in this case, it doesn't tell me anything about the character. the one fear that felt personal, daemia's fear of worms, felt like an early, juvenile fear, indicative of an early death in this situation. what i really didn't love is when the worm tore all her clothes off, and to my understanding kind of raped her???? maybe i'm reading into it too much, but it didn't look like it was eating her so idk what else it would be doing. anyways, other than that the other deaths and fears were so weird. why did that guy fight himself at the end? that's such a hugely symbolic fear to have and it's wasted on a guy who spends most of the movie still on the ship. and then the twist at the end was fine, i guess, but i already really didn't give a shit by the time it got there. i was going to rate this a star higher, but the more i think about it the more confused i become as to why this movie is the way it is.
