This was the most British movie I’ve ever seen, I already knew I wasn’t going to like it on my Best Picture Winner watch because I don’t like movies that won because of the spectacle and not because of the plot but this was better than the greatest show on earth and it had some moments that made me laugh and obviously Cantinflas so it wasn’t all bad. Also the costumes were so beautiful, that budget was insane but deserved. 

Basically: it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve seen; it was fine and now it’s over.

While Niven is pretty entertaining, this movie is a lot more boring than I remember last time. While there are some interesting sets, there is long stretches of nothing. Lots of fun cameos do keep you wanting to pay attention but only warrants so much praise. Though my biggest problem is how much Shirley MacLaine is wasted, so very wasted.

Visual stunning film, the story isn’t great but it mostly serves as a vehicle to show off a diverse array of locations. I can only imagine how cool this movie was when it first released, before we had access to all of these sights at our fingertips, watching the spectacle on the big screen.
