Charlie Chaplin is one of my favorite actors and directors. I’ve enjoyed every film I’ve seen from him, and The Tramp is easily one of my favorite characters in cinema. There is something very timeless and consistent about these films, and The Circus is no exception. It is funny, sincere, and shows Chaplin at his absolute best as both a performer and filmmaker. The comedy works really well and a lot of the sequences are absolutely hilarious.
This is probably in my Top 3 Tramp films, just behind City Lights. A brilliant film and highly recommended.
