“Don’t say ‘and stuff.’ Just say ‘they were doing anal.’”
I tried to watch this once before on streaming and I must have been in a bad mood or something because I thought it was boring and think I fell asleep an hour in and never finished it.
I decided to revisit it after The Rewatchables talked about it so lovingly. I was definitely wrong. This movie is an absolute blast from start to finish. So god damn funny. Every line is so quotable, every character is so memorable. The chemistry between Gosling and Crowe is Cracker Jack. The chemistry between both men and Gosling’s daughter is so good. Everyone hates Janet.
Shane Black’s shit just works for me, man. If we lived in a just world we’d be writing on the third one by now. Sell the franchise to Netflix and make them until these guys die like Knives Out.
Also, as an Angelino, I feel very strongly that if you aren’t going to film a movie in LA don’t set it in LA. LA is so distinctive that whenever it’s not LA I can tell immediately. As an example, Den of Thieves should just be set in Atlanta because it so doesn’t look like LA. The Nice Guys is one of the very rare exceptions where for the most part I actually cannot tell they shot this in Atlanta.
