i was feeling empty/hopeless today so i wanted to watch a romance film. a Saoirse Ronan lead, set in the 1950s (my fav timepiece) and an essential love story? Brooklyn had little room for failure in my eyes and it delivered!

Brooklyn was the perfect amount of relatable, gut-wrenching, and feels good. A complimenting score alongside a well paced plot. this film was simple and effective.

John Crowley's only bad film. It's insane how little he cooked with this, a feature length Barry's Tea ad that dumps Saoirse with a thinly-written role and asks her to do ALL the work. Wall-to-wall sentimental crap. I have no patience for this conservative, small-minded version of Irish pride. Brooklyn is also an insane title for a movie that's 60% set in rural Ireland and doesn't depict New York in a remotely interesting way.

What is DOES do is successfully communicate how fucking annoying it is when old Irish people interrogate you about your private business. And how important it is to establish yourself in a new place away from restraints of your family. but it doesn't even get to that until the last 30 seconds.
