Not even the angelic presence of Jamie Dornan could save this disaster of a film. Perhaps I'm being too harsh on the movie, because it really was perturbingly fun. Louis Drax is a devilishly macabre child narrating his story, flipping between the present and the past as every twist of his tale unfolds. It is ultimately an unhappy tale and severely nihilistic, which I adored. Sadly, the film is so uneven and ridiculously cheesy that it can barely hold itself together. Jamie Dornan is human perfection, Aaron Paul basically plays himself, and Sarah Gadon takes her role much too seriously. The standout here is Aiden Longworth as Louis Drax, the bastard child of Damien from The Omen. While 9th Life has its moments and definite originality, it amounts to nothing more than an entertaining mess.
